No confusion, polls in April or May: Siddaramaiah
Congress would relaunch Congress Nadige Marali Janara Balige.
Bengaluru: In an apparent attempt to bring to an end the ongoing debate on the timing of the next assembly elections, CM Siddaramaiah said the elections would be held as scheduled in April or May next year.
Speaking at the first meeting of the newly constituted KPCC here, Mr Siddaramaiah blamed the opposition for creating confusion on the issue. “There is no confusion, elections will take place in April/ May,” he said.
Congratulating the newly appointed office bearers, the CM said the next election was an important one and therefore it was quite natural to have high expectations from them. “We have fulfilled almost all promises which we stated in the manifesto. We are ready for a public debate on the performance of the BJP led Central government and the Congress led state government. The BJP talks without doing any work. They want to engage in politicking by raising communal and caste issues. When they were in power, they did not do anything for dalits and now, they are engaged in the drama of visiting Dalits’ houses. Even on the issue of Indira Canteens, the BJP is playing politics. They are lying through their teeth. Our workers and office bearers can rest confident that government has done wonderful work,” he added.
KPCC president Dr G. Parameshwar who spoke on the occasion, announced that the Congress would relaunch Congress Nadige Marali Janara Balige (Congress walks towards people again). As part of this campaign, workers would go to every household in the state and educate them about the successful programmes of the Congress government and the failures of the BJP government at the Centre.
“We are considering giving the poll responsibility of each district to one KPCC vice president and two general secretaries. Till the conclusion of polls, they would be responsible for party affairs in the district. We will hold a big convention in October or November and padayatras in every assembly segment. To help office bearers during the polls, we will constitute a control room in the KPCC office,” he added.
