Polls Near, State BJP Prepares to Make Up for Lost Time

Hyderabad: The Telangana state BJP, which has been in the grip of several uncertainties over the past few months, is now geared up for action. The party is now hoping to kick-start its activities and keep its leaders busy and its cadre active.

As part of this endeavour, the state BJP leadership has decided that the party needs 22 committees that will accommodate various leaders, give them tasks to perform and also keep them busy. The absence of committees to provide positions of some importance to party leaders has been one of its sticking points for some time now.

A day after Union minister G. Kishan Reddy took over as the party chief, the BJP has decided to set up various committees, which it hopes would sharpen planning as well as people outreach. Among these will be a manifesto committee, a chargesheet committee, a feedback committee, a statistics committee, a talking point committee and another for media and publicity.

Senior leaders, including Kishan Reddy, state election in-charge Prakash Javadekar and his deputy Sunil Bansal met with former MLAs, MLCs and MPs to discuss ideas for a 100-day action plan during a meeting held on Saturday. Bansal later held a meeting at Ghatkesar with full-time party workers.

The BJP is also planning to take up a series of agitation programmes, starting with a maha dharna in Hyderabad on July 25 demanding distribution of two-bedroom houses for eligible beneficiaries. Similar protests will be organised in all district headquarters on July 24.

Starting August 1, the BJP plans to hold protests across the state on various issues, including payment of farm loan waiver dues, full implementation of the Dalit Bandhu scheme and timely payment of Aasara pensions, among others.
