Vijayawada: VIP movement and scorching sun at Durga temple made life miserable for Pushkar pilgrims. As Sunday is the only holiday before the river festival concludes on Tuesday, lakhs of people poured in to take a holy dip at Vijayawada. All the roads near Pushkar ghats witnessed heavy rush.

With scores of people opting to visit Durga temple the queue lines have stretched out for 2km on either side of the temple. People had to face blazing sun with slow movement of queue lines as there wasn’t any roof too.

Frequent movement of the VIPs added to the woes of pilgrims as police shut down the regular queue lines as and when a VIP arrived for darshan of Goddess Durga.

Many people expressed their anger for the poor management of queue lines at the temple. An elderly woman Padmavathi from Pithapuram said, “We have been waiting since 30 minutes without any movement. No one is concerned about the common people.”

Another lady from Warangal said that whenever they heard a convoy siren the queue line was getting stopped. Police are only looking after the VIPs.

Police on duty also admitted that there have been unprecedented delays in the queue line movement. They also clarified that the delays happened only due to heavy rush of pilgrims.
