I am the only person in the whole of India to be raided four times. I am the only person in the country to be called by the agency 20 times.

Chennai: “We will eventually be vindicated in this case, which is politically motivated. This is a witch-hunt", said Karti P Chidambaram, talking to reporters outside his Chennai residence soon after the arrest of his father by the CBI in Delhi.

“My father was fully compliant with the law. There is a judicial process but what's happening now is a drama and spectacle enacted by the agencies to simply sensationalise and satisfy the voyeuristic pleasure of some people”, Karti said.

He also took to the twitter to post similar responses to the Delhi incidents.

He pointed out that the events relating to the case happened in 2008 whereas the FIR was filed in 2017 “and now in August 2019, they still have no charge sheet”. “This is completely trumped up; made up for the media, for the TV”, said Karti.

“I am the only person in the whole of India to be raided four times. I am the only person in the country to be called by the agency 20 times for questioning and each time I spent over 10 hours. I was with them (CBI) for 11 days as their guest”, said Karti, sounding very bitter but appearing quite confident even in the face of this latest CBI action.

In Delhi, Chidambaram’s lawyer and Congress senior Abhishek Singhvi told the media that the CBI case “has no merit” and the arrest unwarranted.

Congress spokesperson Brijesh Kalapaa said Chidambaram had all along cooperated with the case investigation and spent over 60 hours with the Enforcement Directorate, where PC was made to appear four or five times in connection with this INX Media case.

Incidentally, this is not the case Chidambaram had landed at the CBI headquarters for quizzing. He was there in June last year in response to summons in this case.
