Jagan to Set Foundation for Renewable Energy Projects in Rayalaseema
We aim to make AP a leader in the renewable energy sector by attracting huge investments, said Jagan
Vijayawada: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy would set the foundations for three renewable energy projects in Nandyal district of Rayalaseema region on Wednesday.
The CM will lay foundations in virtual mode from his office in Tadepally. The projects include a 2,300 mw solar power unit at Januthala village of Owk mandal, a 1,014 mw (700 mw solar and 314 mw wind power) at Kandikayapalle village in Panyam mandal and a 2,000 mw (1,000 mw solar and 1,00mw wind power) at Muddavaram village of Bethamcherla mandal.
The 2,300 mw solar power project will see collaboration with M/s Greenko while the 1,014 mw power project will see a team-up with M/s AM Green Energy and the 2,000mw power project with M/s Ecoren Energy, officials said.
AP Genco officials and JMD of AP Transco, Chakradhar Babu, reviewed the arrangements with the energy sector officials here on Tuesday. Later, Chakradhar Babu said the state government was initiating a series of steps to undertake the start of large-scale renewable energy power projects in Nandyal district in Rayalaseema region, in the first phase.
“We aim to make AP a leader in the renewable energy sector by attracting huge investments,” he said and sounded confident the move would help achieve the state government's goal to ensure round-the-clock, uninterrupted power supply at global standards.
He said the APGenco would also enter into an MoU with the National Hydro Power Corporation for promotion of pumped storage power projects. “CM Jagan Mohan Reddy had shown a keen interest to promote renewable energy investments in a big way to meet ‘Intended Nationally Determined Contributions’ commitments to reduce carbon emissions, at the Global Investors’ Summit in March, 2023 in Visakhapatnam. Following this, a meeting was held with power utilities and we advised them to identify power projects that required urgent clearance.”
Accordingly, the APGenco board accorded approval to conclude an MoU with M/s NHPC for implementation of the Yaganti and Kamalapadu pumped storage projects and other projects in AP, in the phase-II,” he stated.
The AP Genco MD stated that the NHPC has agreed in-principle to enter into an MoU with APGenco for forming a joint venture company with a 50:50 share for taking up new pumped storage projects and also renewable energy projects in the state. These would help optimum utilisation of resources, sharing of risks and costs and also faster execution of the projects, he said, and added that it would also help in achieving grid stability and having the access to greater resources like technology, knowledge and expertise, he said.
Strengthening of the energy sector would help transform AP into a vibrant economy and an industrial hub in addition to making it a destination for clean and affordable energy. “This would also enable every family to access the benefits of cheap power, which in turn, helps improve the living standards of the people,” he pointed out.
