AAP MLA Somnath Bharti arrested for allegedly assaulting AIIMS guards
The chief security officer of AIIMS had lodged a complaint against Somnath Bharti on September 11.
New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Somnath Bharti was on Thursday arrested by the Delhi police for allegedly assaulting security guards at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
An FIR was registered on September 11 against controversial former Delhi minister Somnath Bharti, for allegedly misbehaving with security guards at AIIMS in Delhi.
The case was registered at Hauz Khas police station.
The chief security officer (CSO) of AIIMS lodged the complaint against Bharti, alleging that he misbehaved with security personnel and damaged government property on September 9.
But this is not the first time the former Delhi Law Minister has fallen afoul of the law.
Bharti was earlier booked in a domestic violence case filed against him by his wife Lipika Mitra. He was later granted bail in the case.
The AAP MLA was a part of the first AAP Cabinet formed after the 2013 elections, and gained notoriety for raiding the homes rented by Africans in Khirki Extension to look for drugs. When the police refused to do so, citing a lack of a warrant, a group led by Bharti allegedly caught four women and forced them to give urine tests.
Bharti also faced flak in 2014 for revealing the name of a Danish tourist who was raped in the capital, in contravention of laws that prohibit naming a rape victim.
