Chennai: The CBI's anti-corruption branch in Chennai had registered a case of criminal misconduct of possessing assets and pecuniary resources disproportionate to known sources of income and abetment against income tax commissioner (audit)-II (Tamil Nadu & Puducherry) T H Vijayalakshmi IRS and her Prakasam (AP) based MLA husband A Suresh belonging to Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party, and a former Indian Railway accounts service officer.
CBI in its FIR registered in Chennai said that the couple had amassed disproportionate assets worth over Rs 1.1crore during a check period of the year 2010 to 2016. Both together had acquired a wealth of 5.95 crore during the period against a known income of Rs 4.84 crore.
The CBI says that the couple had disproportionate asset, which was 22 per cent more than the known income. The two were booked under section of prevention of corruption act.
Vijaya Lakshmi belongs to 1994 IRS batch and had worked in Bengaluru, Raichur, Kurnool and Hyderabad before being posted in Chennai.
Her husband resigned from the railway accounts service and joined politics. He was MLA from 2009 to 2014 and again from 2014 onwards. He was member of committee on assurances, on SC&ST welfare on public accounts.
