Bengaluru: The paradigm of smart cities calls for a convergence of strategies and technologies that will bring to the fore holistic solutions for accelerated growth and development, said Prof and MP, Rajeev Gowda.
Delivering his inaugural speech at the two-day India Advantage Summit 2017 co-hosted by the Department of IT/BT, Government of Karnataka and Karnataka Biotechnology and Information Technology Services at World Trade Centre at Bengaluru on Thursday, Prof. Gowda said, "The Union Government’s 100 Smart Cities mission seeks to invest over $15 billion in the next years to build efficient and effective city management solutions and infrastructure. In moving towards this reality of smart cities, the right choice would be to create and build the urban cityscape and framework – with global best practices at the core and local realities and challenges addressed with a holistic approach.”
The two-day conference brings together key stakeholders working in the domain of ‘SMART Cities’ in order to bring innovative practices, best case studies and globally tried and tested frameworks to India, he said.
The conference brings together on a common platform stakeholders including decision makers from the declared SMART cities of India, global and Indian firms in the domain of SMART Cities development, developers of Indian ‘SMART’ Township projects and University professors and academicians involved in SMART City initiatives over the next two days to share, discuss, ideate and partner with each other.
Mohan Raju, Chief Strategy Officer, Azuga Inc & Director-IET IoT Panel said, “Smart cities projects in India shall establish radically new standards to ensure the effective use of technology to deliver services and manage complex civic problems. For instance, in managing its physical infrastructure, a city could set standards for all new assets (street lights, parking meters, garbage cans and V2I communications) to be equipped with sensors that monitor performance and signal when maintenance is required.”
These new needs shall invite participation of international stakeholders as well as various startup ecosystems in the country to unearth indigenous solutions to age-old problems, he added.
