Kochi: Two held for theft of high-end bikes
The duo had other day attacked a police team and managed to escape while leaving behind a stolen bike.
Kochi: The Perumbavoor police on Friday arrested two youths who are members of a gang indulged in theft of luxury motor cycles. The accused were identified as Anshad Muhammed(23) and Muhammed Rafi (24), both residents of Mulavur village in Muvattupuzha.
“The duo had other day attacked a police team and managed to escape while leaving behind a stolen bike. However, we managed to catch them today. They used to lift luxury motorcycles, loot mobile phones and purses of migrant labourers and also commit thefts after breaking into shops,” police said. A police team first arrested Anshad while he was riding in a bike stolen from near Perumbavur Royal bakery on Thursday night.
“Rafi was held based on the information he gave. The duo also admitted to committing over 10 thefts in the last two months. Both are accused in other cases and Rafi was released from Jail in June last only,” police said.
Primary probe revealed that there are more members to the gang. “Efforts are on to nab them. The accused were drug addicts and committed the th-efts to buy ganja and oth-er narcotic substances,” police said. The duo was produced before a court which remanded them in judicial custody.
