Odisha health minister quits after sum fire

Sources said he was asked to quit after chief minister Naveen Patnaik asked Mr Nayak to step down.

BHUBANESWAR: Under mounting pressure from the Opposition and in view of stringent criticism from state and national media for the Monday’s fire mishap at Sum Hospital here which has so far claimed 25 lives, Odisha health minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak on Friday resigned from his post.

Sources said he was asked to quit after chief minister Naveen Patnaik asked Mr Nayak to step down. “I resigned from my post owning responsibility for the fire mishap at Sum Hospital. I have sent my papers to chief minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik,” Mr Nayak said.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik confirmed that he had received his resignation.
