Puducherry: Puducherry Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on Saturday kicked off his campaign for the November 19 by-election to Nellithope constituency.
Starting with worshipping at the Muthumariyamman temple at Pillaithottam in the constituency, Mr Narayanasamy undertook a door-to-door campaign asking the electorates to cast their vote for him.
PCC president and PWD minister A. Namasivayam, revenue minister M.O.H.F. Shajahan, DMK leaders – R. V. Janakiraman, R. Siva, volunteers of Congress and DMK accompanied the Chief Minister in campaigning. It was on September 15, Congress legislator A. John Kumar submitted his resignation, putting an end to several months of speculation regarding the constituency from where Narayanasamy would seek a mandate.
To win the by-election is crucial for Narayanasamy, who is a non-member of the House, to formalise his assumption to the Office of the Chief Minister. The battle line is almost clear for the by-poll after AIADMK announced two times legislator from Nellithope constituency Om Sakthi Sekar as the candidate for the by-election. Though main Opposition party in the state NR Congress is yet to announce their stance for the by-poll, chances are high for NR Congress extending their support to the AIADMK candidate.
