Adugodi Junction: A descent to chaos
In addition to potholes, there are broken footpaths and garbage piles to make life miserable for motorists, pedestrians and local residents.
As the road in front of Forum Mall crosses Adugodi and descends towards M.G. Road, it turns into a civic nightmare. In addition to potholes, there are broken footpaths and garbage piles to make life miserable for motorists, pedestrians and local residents. They are upset with the tardy progress of white-topping work in the area and want the footpaths to be fixed at the earliest
Koramangala is considered to be one of the upscale localities in the city, but even that has some dark spots. The road opposite Forum Mall was partly concretised recently, while the other half continues to have asphalt and is riddled with potholes.
As the road descends to M.G. Road at Adugodi, it is a civic nightmare with broken footpaths and garbage pile ups.
Though BBMP has made efforts to repair the slabs on the drains, the pedestrians complain that many are still in a dilapidated state and they fear to tread on them. The pedestrians have to contend with broken slabs and the filth on a daily basis.
“The government should hasten the TenderSure project and finish it soon. The commuters cannot continue to face issues like this for long. Everyday vehicles are added in thousands and if this is going to the condition of streets then we will rethink our choice during 2019 election,” said Alok Kumar, a resident of Koramangala.
Recently, during Dasara shopkeepers and residents allegedly dumped garbage near the Adugodi Storm Water Drain (SWD).
The residents even pointed out that the condition of the road near Jyoti Nivas College is also pathetic. This road is frequented by college students and food lovers as many eateries are located on this road.
One of the senior officials of the BBMP claimed that most of the streets inside the ward have been repaired and the work is continuing. “Not only the streets, even the footpaths and drains are being looked into. Recently, Koramangala Block 5 was completely concretised.”
Abhishek, who stays near Forum Mall, pointed out that after the Assemble election road concretization work has slowed down.
“The moment we descend towards Adugodi, we encounter a heap of garbage. The government must pull up BBMP. Where are the cameras? The violators should be heavily fined. When the culprits come to know that the government means business, nobody will dare to violate rules,” he added.
‘Other side of road will be concretised soon’
Q&A: with corporator M. Chandrappa
When the other half portion of the road near Forum Mall will be repaired?
The work will be initiated once we will finish one side. If we carry out work both sides simultaneously there will be a huge traffic issue, since the junction faces heavy traffic during peak hours. But the work will be initiated soon.
The residents have complained about the garbage dumping near the Adugodi junction. What are you doing about it?
We know about the issue, but the dumping happened during the festival. It was done by shopkeepers and nearby residents, but I have got it cleared.
What about repairing pavements in the ward? Have they begun?
Yes, it has. In fact in the ward the roads and pavements have been repaired and within few months it will be completed.
