H Raja apologises to Madras HC, says remarks were purely unintentional'
Following H Raja's unconditional' apology, the Madras High Court has closed the case.
Chennai: Recording the submissions, a division bench of Justice C T Selvan and M Nirmal Kumar closed the suo moto contempt plea initiated against the BJP leader on September 17, the day when the comment was made.
Noting that the court was only concerned about the dignity of the institution, the bench said when the contemnor has apoloigised for his act, it is appropriate to close the contempt plea. "The majesty of the court lies in its magnanimity," the court said. On September 15, Raja allegedly made derogatory comments against judiciary and police during an argument with cops over a Vinayagar procession in Tamil Nadu's Pudukkottai district.
In the video, an angry H Raja was seen gesturing wildly and screaming at two policemen who were trying to pacify him. The BJP leader was riled up when the police attempted to stop a Vinayaka Chaturthi procession headed by him from entering a communally sensitive area, where the Madras High Court has banned processions. H Raja was heard abusing both the Tamil Nadu police and the Madras High Court in the video.
H Raja accused the police of being corrupt and of receiving bribes from Christian missionaries. He also abused the Madras High Court using obscene language and told police that they ought to be ashamed since the CBI raided DGP TK Rajendran’s house. Despite the cops claiming that they were just following the Madras High Court orders, H Raja went on to insult the court once again in public and demanded that a stage be constructed for him to talk.
H Raja was booked for it and an FIR filed at the Thirumayam Police Station in Pudukottai district.
