Osmania University students protest ICS postponement

Student belonging to the ABVP burnt an effigy of Mr Rao, alleging that the event was postponed because of him.

Now, to give back to the society, the Osmania University Alumni Committee is planning to adopt 100 villages across 10 districts in Telangana, marking 100 years of the university.

Hyderabad: Leaders from different student organisations called on the Vice-Chancellor after the cancellation of the Indian Science Congress, and demanded that it be held in the university.

They said they were against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, and not the event.

ABVP OU incharge P. Srihari said, “Postponement of such an event in the university which has a 100-year history is a very big insult. The event was postponed because of the negligence of the CM and university officials’’.

On social media, a tweet by CPM leader Sitaram Yechury was retweeted more than 300 times.

He wrote, “Modi’s utterances, his govt and policies has meant a hit for Science, reason and rationality. Now even holding the ISC on time (first time in over a century) is not possible?”
