Row over Public Service Commission's Aadhaar linkage
The PSC notified that all candidate who have already taken Aadhaar to link it as ID proof in their one time profile.
Thiruvananthapuram: Activists have alleged that the decision of the Public Service Commission (PSC) to ask applicants to link Aadhaar to their profile was a violation of the Supreme Court judgment extending the deadline for linking of Aadhaar to all services including mobile services and opening of new bank accounts to March 31, 2018. The PSC notified that all candidate who have already taken Aadhaar to link it as ID proof in their one time profile.
Activist Anivar Aravind told Deccan Chronicle that new deadline of the Supreme Court was also be applicable to the schemes of ministries, departments of the Union government as well as those of state governments. After the court verdict the deadline was extended for all schemes, including public distribution system and scholarships to March 31.
The decision of the PSC was a violation of the court directive, said Mr Aravind. He said that though, the PSC decision was restricted to only those who have already taken Aadhaar, the decision was against the spirit of the court order as the court will examine the validity of the Aadhaar Act in January in view of the importance of the issues involved. The issue has been already been taken up with the authorities, said Mr Aravind.
