Mysuru: With the death of a 45-year-old man, the toll of devotees who consumed prasada laced with poison at Kuchuguththi Maramma temple at Sulawadi in Chamarajnagar district, spiralled to 16 on Friday. 

A daily wage worker and shepherd, Nagesh, succumbed at JSS hospital Friday morning. His body was shifted to the mortuary of Mysuru Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI) for post mortem examination.  Later, his body was taken to Sulawadi for last rites. 

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Nagesh’s son-in-law Kumar (husband of Nagesh’s eldest daughter, Priya) said: “my father in law consumed the prasada while going out to graze sheep. My mother in law who is also my sister, Mahadevi, has been working as a daily wage worker. Among four daughters, only the eldest daughter Priya is married.
