Hyderabad: While investigations in the gangster Nayeem case are progressing, several moves are underway to water down the probe to prevent as the gangster’s connections with government officials from getting exposed, say activists.
The government had constituted an SIT to inquire into the crimes committed by the gangster who was killed in an encounter.
Forum For Good Governance secretary Padmanabha Reddy said, “Illegalities committed by Nayeem are not confined to Telangana. He was active in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharastra, Goa and Odisha. The inquiry is bringing to light irregularities committed by him in connivance with officials in revenue and registrations departments. It looks like the government has given a go-slow signal in the case.”
Also, the probe in the drug bust of July last year suffered a blow when the drug racket’s alleged kingpin Calvin Mascarenhas walked out after getting bail in January as the prosecution failed to file a chargesheet in the case. The racket also exposed the dark side of the Telugu film industry with 12 of its prominent personalities were grilled by the SIT for their alleged involvement in the racket.
