Nellore rail station set to get world-class amenities
Railways are also planning to construct railway under bridges in Nellore City in view of requests made by people representatives.
Nellore: Nellore Railway Station is poised to become a world class station with passenger amenities and safety measures on par with the best railway stations around the globe.
In addition to this, a commercial complex would be developed in the Nellore station in about 65,000 square feet area at an estimated cost of Rs 60 crore.
South Central Railway general manager Vinod Kumar Yadav has revealed this while speaking to media persons here on Monday after inspecting the railway station premises, platforms and facilities such as escalators and lifts.
He said they would construct one more foot over bridge with escalator facility in Nellore Railway Station and also increase the width of the existing escalators to six metres for the convenience of the passengers apart from modern flooring in the station.
According to the GM, a technical team consisting of officials along with divisional railway manager would visit Nellore Railway Station in February to devise necessary plans to develop the station.
Railways are also planning to construct railway under bridges in Nellore City in view of requests made by people representatives besides platforms wherever necessary and raise the height of the existing platforms in all the stations in a phased manner.
Referring to the foundation stone laid for a foot over bridge at Nellore South Railway Station on Tuesday, the GM expressed confidence in completing the same within six months. The GM assured to make use of the lands belonging to Railways lying idle in Bitragunta Junction. “We have been working on it and will announce a decision later,” Mr Vinod said. He promised basic amenities at Nellore South and Kavali stations.
Kavali MLA Ramireddy Prathap Reddy urged to arrange another ticket counter in the second platform in Kavali Railway Station. He also made a plea to increase the height of the platform in the station and to stop superfast trains move towards Bengaluru for the convenience of passengers.
Nellore MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy, Nellore urban MLA P. Anil Kumar Yadav, Kavali MLA Prathap Kumar Reddy, Nellore Station Superintendent Jayaraj and others were present. Meanwhile Nellore MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy along with DRM R.Dhanunjaya inspected Nellore South station.
They laid foundation stone for foot over bridge at the station. Mr Yadav requested the GM to construct road under bridge in the city at Venkateswarapuram for the benefit of people living in Gandhi Girijan Sangam.
