Rules for EWS soon

The minister clarified that the previous government's decision to shift 30 categories from OBC to OEC, would not be changed.

Thiruvananthapuram: SC, ST and backward classes minister A.K. Balan on Tuesday said the required rules would be framed to fix the creamy layer income ceiling for implementing the 10 percent reservation for the economically weaker among forward communities.

At a press conference here, the minister said amendments to Kerala StaetSubordinate Service Rules and KER should be enought for this purpose. Urgent steps will be taken for making these amendments.

The minister clarified that the previous government’s decision to shift 30 categories from OBC to OEC, would not be changed. The educational assistance being given to these sections would not be scrapped, he said.

The minister said Rs 200 crore had been sanctioned for granting assistance to these sections. Arrears worth Rs 189 crore towards educational assistance were pending.
