Good rains as El Nino ebbs: MET
In 2015, the monsoon was affected due to the El Nino effect.
New Delhi: With El Nino effect easing, the weatherman is hoping for a better monsoon this year after a gap of almost two years, news which can prove to be a breather for beleaguered farmers.
“We are hoping to have a better monsoon this year as the El Nino effect is slowing. It was very severe last year which had affected the monsoon,” said M. Rajeevan, secretary, ministry of earth science. He, however, refused to comment further saying the department will come out with its initial forecast report in April this year. For a second consecutive year, the monsoon was deficient in the country, leading to drought like conditions in many parts.
In 2015, the monsoon was affected due to the El Nino effect. The phenomenon also led to warmer winter this year, which resulted in unusually high temperatures.
