Pondicherry University students begin indefinite fast for facilities
Students alleged that though they met the vice chancellor with the demands many times, she was not ready to take any action.
Puducherry: Students of Pondicherry University, under the aegis
of students’ council, started an indefinite fast on Monday in support of their demands.
Twelve students, including the council president, Langeswaran and executive council member, Medha Suresh, started the fast demanding strengthening of security inside the campus, 25 per cent reservation for Puducherry students, fee exemption for SC/ST students, exit option for integrated students after three years and stipend for students of social science integrated course.
“We are putting forward the long-term demands of students of Pondicherry University.” said E.N. Jishnu, council secretary. Students alleged that though they met the vice chancellor with the demands many times, she was not ready to take any action.
“Students will boycott classes tomorrow and take out a massive rally,” Langeswaran said. The council has decided to forward its demands to the Ministry of Human Resources Development.
