Students of TISS Hyderabad stir on scraping financial aid

HYDERABAD: Students of TISS Hyderabad staged a protest in solidarity with their chapter in Mumbai who began their protests on February 21, against a recent notification of the TISS admin to withdraw financial aid to students from SC/ST category. The financial aid provided to OBC students was withdrawn in 2015. Solidarity protests were held in TISS at Hyderabad, Guwahati and Tuljapur.
The students claimed that the administration addressed the students and told them that providing financial aid to students for the last 14 years was a “favour” being done to them.
The protesting students claimed that many students studying in TISS would be affected by the decision as it will cut the opportunities of those who wished to study in TISS. After the decision to cut grants to OBC students, a 9 per cent drop in OBC admission was recorded and students feel that the same will happen to students from the SC/ST category who can’t afford the fees making the decision an undemocratic one.
