We'll correct aberrations, says Sitaram Yechury
Violence is not party's culture, says CPM general secy in his inaugural address at 22nd party conference.
Thiruvananthapuram: CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Thursday made it clear that violence was not part of his party’s culture and aberrations, if any, will be corrected. The CPM general secretary’s remarks during his inaugural address at the 22nd state conference of the party which began in Thrissur, came in the wake of the brutal murder of Youth Congress leader Edyannur Shuhaib in Kannur on February 12. “Our culture is to defeat the enemies politically. If there are aberrations that will be corrected, let me assure. This is alien to us. Necessary corrections will be done and that assurance can be given,” he added.
Yechury said the RSS has been targeting the LDF government ever since it came to power , unleashing murderous attacks. “The cycle of violence takes place if somebody attacks. We continue to tell them political violence is not CPM's culture. But if you attack our cadre, our comrades we will defend ourselves. As right to self defence we will protect our comrades and that will always take place,” he said.
The CPM general secretary said the torch for the conference venue came from 577 memorials of party comrades who were murdered by rivals. These comrades were eliminated because they were championing the struggle against exploitation, he said. “Our martyrs are clear examples of how class enemies mount such attacks. This violence will be met with self-defence,” he said and added that politics of violence was the fundamental basis on which the RSS grows across the country.
Yechury said every single judicial inquiry into communal riots till the Sree Krishna judicial commission report on Bombay riots had indicted the RSS as primarily responsible for creating communal tension and riots. “They create this polarization which is the electoral and political capital on which they survive. This culture will have to be fought. We will fight it democratically and defeat it,” he added.
