Adilabad: Bootlegger falls into river, drowns

The issue came to light on Thursday morning when his body was floating in the river.

Adilabad: Bootlegger Sheik Shabbir of Pedda Arli village of Bheempur mandal allegedly fell into river Penganga and drowned when excise officials chased him on the state border.

The incident took place in the early hours of Wednesday. The issue came to light on Thursday morning when his body was floating in the river.

The excise team was about to nab four bootleggers who take desi daru from Chinna Ali in Maharashtra and sell it at Pedda Ali in Adilabad.

Excise officials caught two bootleggers and two among the four managed to escape after getting beaten up.

One among the two - Sheik Shabbir, went into deep waters while trying to escape from the excise officials when they chased him. Pandharkawada police fished out the body and informed Adilabad police.

Shabbir’s family members were proceeding with the body towards Adilabad to stage a protest in front of the collectorate on Friday, when police pacified them and promised justice.
