Hyderabad: Three killed in car accident

According to the NCRB data released on Monday, Delhi stood first with 1,451 victims in 1,317 accidents caused due to negligence, Chennai was in second place with 1,404 victims in 1,312 road accidents.

Hyderabad: Three persons were killed, including relatives of a local sarpanch, when their car fell into a lake at Vellanki village in Ramannapet mandal of Yadadri district, police said on Saturday.

The victims were identified by the police as Darne Madhu, 37, the husband of Vellanki village sarpanch D. Rani, their son Manikanta, 9, and their friend Sreedhar Reddy, 35.

A local said that Madhu and Sreedhar Reddy had gone to an agriculture well to wash the car for Maha Shivaratri. They were returning home when the accident occurred, claiming the three lives.

ACP Sattaiah said that CCTV footage of the road in the area showed that the driver was speeding when he lost control of the car at a turning on the bund and the vehicle plunged into the lake.

The lake was nine feet deep. The passengers could not come out of the car because they could not open the doors which were locked by the automatic locking system, the police official said.
