APSRTC to expand courier service for more revenue
APSRTC's decision regarding courier services is yielding good results.
Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transportation Corporation (APSRTC) decision regarding courier services is yielding good results. They have received an additional Rs 50 crore income by replacing the ANL parcel service with their own courier service. Now, they are planning to reach a target of Rs 200 crore by the next financial year. Like private services, the APSRTC is also utilising its vast network for cargo services.
Every private bus service, particularly a few travels are running courier services successfully in the state. ANL parcel services had reached an agreement with APSRTC and have been running their services. But, only limited customers are using ANL parcel service. The APSRTC management took a decision to take over the courier service and run it on their own. This decision has proven to be fruitful.
From the last two years, the courier service run by the APSRTC has been giving them enough profits. As it is has a wide network reaching all towns and districts, the courier service has been receiving good response. There is lack of publicity in this regard. Taking note of it, APSRTC has announced ‘clearance week’ now. All the depots have been directed to follow the concept.
Mr A.V. Rao, executive director (M&C) said, “Presently we are getting Rs 50 crore income from parcel service. We fixed a target of Rs 200 crore by next year. Many people do not know about this or how to use this service.” Presently, this service is being run only from bus stations. There is a request from people to expand to its centres to different outlets in towns, so that they can avail this service easily just like other courier services. Mr K. Sampath, a private employee said, “RTC is offering good courier service. It is mainly useful for sending parcels. But, if it starts more outlets apart from bus stations, the network will be widened and it will help us more.”
