Communist parties also joined YSRC protesters to express their support for the demand.
TIRUPATI: YSRC activists, demanding special category status to Andhra Pradesh, on Thursday blocked the highway in Tirupati. Activists lead by party general secretary Bhumana Karunakar Reddy blocked the highway at Tanapalli causing disruption to the traffic movement leading to jams and vehicles being lined up for a couple of kilometres on either side of the road. Communist parties also joined YSRC protesters to express their support for the demand.
Telugu Desam leaders, meanwhile, protested by blocking city roads in Tirupati. YSRC student's wing protested at the SV University campus demanding SCS
Speaking to media persons, Mr Bhumana Reddy said, "The TD government has failed to achieve special category status to the state. The TD has started playing a drama after four years. Many U-turns were taken by the Chief Minister and the party. YSRC stood for special category status from the beginning. There are many incidents, where TD tried to suppress the agitations for SCS".
