Chennai: A massive candle-lights rally of concerned citizens led by the Tamil Nadu State Federation of the Deaf was taken out in the city on Sunday to condemn the cruelty done to the eight-year-old Kathua rape victim in Jammu Kashmir and demanded quick punishment for the guilty.
“We condemn the cruelty done to the girl. The offenders should be dealt with severely. Hang them in pubic without delay. We, the deaf, pray for the girl child and other similar victims”, said the large banner and the many placards that were carried in the silent rally. Taking to the sign language, the participants communicated to the public that the families should take utmost care to protect their children, specially the girl children, from perverts.
Children with physical disabilities were particularly vulnerable as they would not be able to protest, draw quick attention for help and to report the crime, they cautioned.
