Khammam: The state government has directed its education department officials to send a report on the reducing pass percentage in residential junior colleges, though these institutions are being provided all facilities.
The Intermediate exam results in residential junior colleges were lower when compared to the previous year. Interestingly, facilities for teaching staff and students in the colleges increase year after year.
The aim of government in setting up residential junior colleges is to provide quality education to children of underprivileged sections in society. The education budget for the last two years in Telangana state is nearly Rs 25,500 crore.
Students in residential colleges are provided books free, non-vegetarian dishes twice a week and egg every day, as well as supplied with soaps, blankets, oils and books.
For example, there are nine residential junior colleges in the two districts of Khammam and Bhadradri-Kothagudem and 672 students in Intermediate final year passed against 857 who wrote the exams. The pass per cent stood at 78.41 per cent against 82.67 last year. Residential junior college in Bhadrachalam showed worst with the pass percentage coming down to 74 from 83.
