Karwar: Go scuba diving and get your voter ID cards

Karwar: Voting can be tedious, involving long queues and braving the hot sun. But what if it was seen as an adventure? Making this a selling point, officers of the Uttara Kannada district administration scuba dived off its famous Netrani Islands to hand over voter identity cards to four young scuba diving enthusiasts on Sunday.
The four young men, who got their voter IDs in the presence of colourful fish swimming around them in the depths of the Arabian sea, are never likely to miss voting considering their never to be forgotten experience.
Leading the group in the scuba diving adventure was Deputy Commissioner, Dr Harish Kumar. He was accompanied by, ZP CEO, M Roshan and the four first- time voters, Rupesh Gajanan Naik, Vignesh Subraya Devadiga, Ganesh Shivananda Devadiga, Vinayaka Venkataramana Naik.
Finally, in the water world at the bottom of the sea, the ceremony was solemnly conducted of handing over the voter ID cards with Dr Harish Kumar using scuba signs to advise the young men to actively participate in the election process. In turn, they signed him their agreement.
Besides doing its best to promote voting in the most adventurous ways possible, the Uttara Kannada district is making sure the elections go off smoothly, installing CCTV cameras to keep an eye on every vehicle at the checkposts, The cameras are monitored by the DC's office round the clock with the personnel at the checkpost even receiving a call if they are found not doing their job.
There are also 206 other cameras keeping an eye on the movement of vehicles in the 12 cities and towns of the district.
