Kadapa: The Locked House Monitoring System (LHMS) mobile app launched by the Andhra Pradesh police has evoked a good response from people in Kadapa.

The LHMS is a  mobile application developed by  police department and was introduced to enable property owners and residents to avail themselves of the free services of CCTV surveillance of their houses when they are away. The service is available for both android and iPhone users.

House owners have to download the LHMS application from Google playstore for android phones or the App store for iPhone users.

They must enter their name and residential address and will get a unique ID, indicating successful registration. When requests are made through this app, police installs a WiFi modem and a wireless recording camera unit in their house.

House owners going out of town have to put in an application and indicate the period of their absence. According to their request, police will visit their house and install a WiFi modem with camera in and outside the house.

This unit is linked to the registered mobile number and to the central police control room. If there is any movement in front of or inside the house, the camera will record pictures and videos and send these to the control room.

Control room police will immediately alert patrolling police near the house who will surround the house and catch the person unauthorisedly entering the house.

“On the midnight of December 2nd, 2017, a thief entered a house in the Chinnachowk area in Kadapa city. Within 3 minutes the house was surrounded by police who arrested him. District police recovered Rs 70 lakh worth jewellery and other material from the thief,” said Superintendent of Police Babuji Attada, explaining how the thief was caught by police due to the LHMS.

There are 1,53,042 members  registered in the LHMS app so far in the district. Since the last two years, thefts have reduced in the district.

There are 50 cameras and WiFi units ready for installation. TD district president Srinivasa Reddy has given Rs 50 lakh to police for setting up CCTV cameras all over the Kadapa city limits.
