After four years, Hennur flyover is finally going to be a reality
Project should have been completed in 2011, but delayed due to land acquisition issues.
Bengaluru: Work on the flyover at Hennur Junction has been delayed by at least four years, inconveniencing motorists travelling between Lingarajpuram and Bagalur and on Outer Ring Road (ORR). The good news is the pending work on the flyover is now likely to begin from the first week of June and be completed in four weeks. Already, a major portion of the work has been completed with only the down ramp and surface road improvement still waiting to be completed.
The project being executed by Nagarjuna Construction Company should have been completed in December 2011, but has been dragging on owing to problems with land acquisition. The delay has hit the BDA hard as it has now spent at least Rs 60 crore on land acquisition for the down ramp of the flyover towards Hennur.
Ironically, the cost of land acquisition on the Hennur side is higher than the entire cost of the project, which has been pegged at Rs 57.88 crore. Had the BDA gone in land acquisition four years ago, it would have saved at least 30 crore considering the then guidance and market value, say official sources.
As the BDA has now made all necessary arrangements to complete the project by acquiring the land required, the flyover could soon be completed, decongesting the ORR and the stretch between Lingarajpuram and Hennur, add the officers.
Background
The BDA came up with the three tier project with underpass and flyover to make the ORR and the road between Lingarajpuram and Hennur signal- free. The project which began in 2009 should have been completed in 18 months.
