Rohith Vemula suicide: VC tells protesters at UoH to pull down tents
After Vemula's suicide the JAC for Social Justice has been protesting at the site and erected tents at the location.
Hyderabad: The UoH is tense again after students protesting on the issue of suicide by dalit PhD scholar Rohith Vemula received a notice on Saturday from vice-chancellor Prof. Appa Rao Podile telling them to remove the tents in north shopping complex premises within 48 hours.
The students were protesting at the venue since January. The shopping complex is where Rohith Vemula along with four other dalit PhD scholars had erected a small tent and were staying after being suspended from hostels.
After Vemula’s suicide the JAC for Social Justice has been protesting at the site and erected tents at the location.
The notice was served through the registrar’s office security department. A JAC member said they would not move away. “Our demands have not been met yet. None of the culprits has been has been punished,” he said.
