Hyderabad: Picket trench still wide open
With just two weeks left for the monsoon, the work is still pending.
Hyderabad: The giant trench on Picket Road is still incomplete and the contractor is to blame for not completing the work by the three- month deadline beginning in March. With just two weeks left for the monsoon, the work is still pending.
In February, a large chuck of the road in front of the existing Picket nala was cut open to build a new culvert. The Secunderabad Cantonment Board demolished the earlier British-era culvert as it was in a dilapidated condition.
Since then, the traffic on Picket Road has been diverted to the internal lanes of Vikrampuri which connect to Kharkhana for those coming from Wellington Road-Marredpally.
It should be noted that this stretch is the prime connectivity to Kharkhana and the Jubilee bus station. Picket Road that witnesses over 1 lakh commuters a day has been closed since the last week of February.
When this newspaper reported the same, civic officials said the road would open after May. But going by the present status of the work, it is unlikely to be completed by the end of this month.
An assistant engineer of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board said that the delay is mainly due to the water pipelines and service provider cables laid underground, which have to be handled carefully.
