Salem: Dalit girl's kin refuse to receive body from GH for day 2

The girl who was admitted to a private hospital last Thursday died, without responding to treatment on Saturday.

Police sources said that relationship issues could have driven the girl to take this extreme step.

Salem: Parents and relatives of a 23-year-old IAS aspirant, who committed suicide in Chennai refused to receive the body of the girl from the Salem government hospital for the second consecutive day on Monday, demanding a probe into her 'mysterious death'.

Police said Gayathri, daughter of Nagaraj, a daily wager from Salem Camp near Mettur, and undergoing free IAS coaching at a training academy in Chennai, died by consuming poison. The girl who was admitted to a private hospital last Thursday died, without responding to treatment on Saturday.  

Parents of the girl alleged that the private hospital had sent her body to her native Salem without performing a post-mortem and before informing the local police.

This raised serious doubts among the family members. The body of the girl was later taken to Salem GH for post-mortem on Saturday.
