Hyderabad: The Students Union of University of Hyderabad called for a protest on Monday afternoon at the Chief Warden’s office. The protest was to address the forceful eviction of students from their rooms and to question the hostel rent of Rs 1000 that was demanded from students during the summer vacations .

A major point of contention was the shifting of male students against their will from north campus to south.

“Many  M-tech students are at north campus doing their final year projects purely for academic purposes. Library and internet facility is available only in the north campus. The hostel that they are planning to shift the students to is newly constructed and yet to get internet connectivity. All of these factors could severely affect their research,” says Kuldeep Singh Nagi, the Students’ Union President.

Attended by 60 students, the protesters and the union members addressed their concerns to the chief warden, Dr. Vasuki Belvadi. They agreed that the eviction would stop and that the merging of hostels to ensure preservation of electricity and water during the vacations would be done with the consent of students.
