Karnataka: Indian Navy and police join hands to combat trespassers

Karwar: A joint security exercise was undertaken by the naval authorities and the state police personnel inside the Naval Base in Karwar after there were a breach in the boundary wall of the Naval base on Thursday.
INS Kadamba, the Naval Base in Karwar, is situated next to National Highway 66. Since work on road widening is being undertaken, there has been some breaches in the boundary wall. This has raised the concern of the authorities as the Navy Base is a prohibited area and any tresspassing cannot be taken lightly.
“The highway expansion by IRB Company, has been causing breaches in the boundary wall at many places. As and when such breach is noticed, a search is carried out in the area by security personnel of the base and the breach is repaired,” a press statement from the Navy stated.
“There was a breach in the wall between Sankrubagh and Binaga on Thursday and three trespassers were sighted near the breach in the morning. When the security personnel of the Navy base went to apprehend them, they ran away” the press release stated.
“As usual the area was searched to ensure that there was no unauthorized person hiding in the area. Since the area is a jungle, for the first time, the dog squad of the state police was utilized in the search. The exercise was called off, after a thorough search in the evening,” it added.
The Navy has stated that it was important for people residing close to the Karwar Naval Base to note that the Base has been declared “Prohibited Area” by the Government of Karnataka through notification dated May 15, 2017.
