They also pointed out that there was a base land (Adi Manai)' issue in Srirangam pending for the last several years.
Srirangam: The DMK working president M K Stalin, heading a party which puts rationalism before religious faith, was given a warm reception with traditional ‘Poorna Kumbam’ by the ‘Srirangam Brahmins Association’ led by Mr. Sourirajan, in front of the ‘white tower’ of the ancient Sri Ranganathaswamy temple at Srirangam-Tiruchy on Friday, when Stalin came there to attend the marriages of the wards of DMK functionaries.
They expressed the hope to Mr. Stalin that after the next Assembly election in Tamil Nadu, the DMK will form the Government “under your (Stalin’s) leadership.” They also pointed out that there was a ‘base land (Adi Manai)’ issue in Srirangam pending for the last several years.
The late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa assured them she would sort it out, but it is yet to be resolved. They pleaded with Mr. Stalin to raise the issue in the current session of the Assembly. Mr. Stalin assured them that he would raise the issue in the House.
Sources said special 'pujas' were performed in the name of Mr. Stalin at Lord Sri Ranganathaswamy shrine in the early hours today. Mr. Stalin accepted the ‘prasad’ from the temple priest in front of the ‘Ranga Ranga Gopuram’. Later, Mr. Stalin donated new clothes to 27 Brahmins, the sources added.
