Tiruchy: Piqued by some Congress functionaries recent remarks, former State minister and DMK Tiruchy South district secretary, K. N. Nehru has said that the DMK should face the ensuing local bodies election on its own, without having an alliance with anybody, especially the Congress.

Mr. Nehru made these remarks while presiding over the DMK's demonstration at Tiruchy on Saturday, as part of the statewide agitation to condemn the AIADMK Government's failure to solve the drinking water crisis. He asked, "how long can we carry the Congress on our shoulders".  He took strong exception over the remarks of several congressmen like Mayura Jayakumar and wanted to know whether such persons made those remarks with the knowledge of the Congress high command?

Mr. Nehru further said if the party forged an alliance with the Congress for the coming local bodies' polls, he would ask his party's high command to at least permit the Tiruchy district DMK to face the elections on its own.

Similar demonstrations were held at Karur, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Pudukkottai, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts today.
