High Court clears route for Metro Rail at Sangeet cross road
The legal battle was on since 2013, with flat owners objecting to the Metro Rail route.
Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metro Rail on Friday won a huge victory, with the High Court ruling that the Padma Hamsa Apartments at Secunderabad will give way for the transport system. The 20-year-old apartment building near St Anns School has 26 flats and 11 shops. The Metro Rail has to take a sharp turn at this point to connect Sangeet crossroads and SP Road. The legal battle was on on since 2013, with flat owners objecting to the Metro Rail route.
The High Court has asked the Hyderabad collector to provide both land and structural compensation and allocate rehabilitation compensation. Hyderabad Metro Rail managing director N.V.S. Reddy said, “There were three properties on the curve between Sangeet junction and St Ann’s school. The matter with a private party and the Iskcon temple were sorted out after negotiations. HMR told the court that in the Padma Hamsa apartment case, the norms were being followed as per the law.”
A total of 1,131.89 square yards of the apartments will be taken over, and HMR will pay a compensation of Rs 7.97 crore. For the private property belonging to one Mr Nanda Kumar, HMR had paid Rs 3.93 crore as compensation for 712.80 sq. yards. The Iskcon temple had agreed to give 638 square yard for the Metro Rail viaduct. Officials said the flat ow-ners were shown JNNURM houses in the city but they turned them down. The collector is yet to decide on how much relief has to be allocated per house. The apartment residents welfare association refused to comment.
As per earlier plan, the Metro Rail was to go up to St John’s Church junction at East Marredpally and turn towards Sangeet crossroads, occupying some portion of the Iskcon temple and a few square yards of some private properties. It was re-routed to go over the temple land, necessitating in acquisition of land belonging to the Padma Hamsa apartments.
