Bonam offered in golden pot
The committee took out its procession from Jammidoddi street to the temple.
Vijayawada: Bonalu in a golden pot was offered to Goddess Kanakadurga by the Bhagyanagar Mahankali Jatara Bonala Utsava Committee at Vijayawada on Sunday. Almost 1,000 committee members reached Vijayawada to take part in the procession and have darshan of the goddess on Indrakeeladri hill here. The committee took out its procession from Jammidoddi street to the temple.
The tradition of the Bhagyanagar committee offering Bonalu to Goddess Kanakadurga was started seven years ago. The committe presented a golden pot which was specially designed for the purpose.
Kanakadurga temple executive officer Dr M. Padma, temple board chairman Gowranga Babu has welcomed the committee and made arrangements for the members.
Mr Gajula Anajaiah of the utsava committee said, “Even though we belong to two states, we are Telugu people. Both states have to be developed. We wish Andhra Pradesh will get Special Category Status.”
Dr Padma said, “Mahankali and Kanakadurga are sisters. With this spirit, both the states have to behave like sisters.”
Cultural programmes were conducted to mark the occasion. The Pothuraju dance and procession with traditional drums presented by the Bhayanagar committee attracted the local holiday crowd.
