Bengaluru: Within one week after launch of ambitious Indira Canteens, Mayor G Padmavathi has pointed out that the two contractors - Mumbai based Chef Talk and New Delhi based NGO Rewards have failed to follow the prescribed menu. All the 101 canteens were supposed to serve 'idlis and khara bath' for breakfast on Tuesday were seen serving bisi bele bath.
After a surprise inspection on Tuesday at different canteens, she personally apprised Chief Minister Siddaramaiah about the prevailing situation at various canteens across the city. Further, she directed the contractor to stick to the menu and serving time.
She later told Deccan Chronicle that CM has given the BBMP, the implementing agency, to take necessary actions to ensure that the scheme is popularised and the poor are fed without any hassle. When she apprised him of non-cooperation of a few BBMP officials, CM directed her to take the needed action and set right all the anomalies within a week.
Replying to a DC's query on why Indira Canteens have not taken the necessary licences, Mayor said "Steps to take the necessary licences have been initiated and we shall get it for canteens."
