Civic body to take up road widening works
GHMC is also looking at widening Volga Hotel to Amannagar road.
Hyderabad: Encouraged by the success of road widening on a few stretches of the old city, the GHMC will take up widening work on a few more stretches. The corporation proposes to widen the Falaknuma Bus Depot and Vattepally Road connecting the Inner Ring Road. The corporation is also looking at widening the Volga Hotel to Amannagar road as the Bhavaninagar Road is narrow.
The GHMC has taken up road widening on many internal roads in the old city. The road stretch from Zohra Bee Dargah to Rakshapuram was successfully completed by the corporation. Considered one of the most litigant areas, the corporation managed to acquire almost 285 properties on the stretch.
Similarly, it also managed to pull down buildings on the Doodhbowli to Hussainialam stretch and the Fateh Darwaza to Volga Hotel stretch to widen roads and improve connectivity with Bahadurpura.
According to senior officials in the GHMC, the corporation proposes to widen the road stretch between the Engine Bowli junction and Vattepally Nice Hotel via Bibi Ka Chasma in near future.
“Already in the Rajendranagar circle, the stretch from Vattepally Nice Hotel to Bandlaguda Road and Shastripuram is about 80 feet. We aim to connect the road with Engine Bowli to serve as a short cut. The proposal was made long ago,” said the official. As of now motorists intending to approach the Bandlaguda or Aramgarh from old city take the Chandrayangutta Road which increases their travel time and journey by about three kilometres.
The officials said there was also a proposal to widen the stretch between the Kalapather labour adda to Misrigunj junction. The road will be connected with the Vazir Ali Mosque stretch. The road is very narrow and regular traffic snarls are being witnessed.
At Tallabkatta, the authorities propose to widen the road between the old Volta Hotel at Moghalpura and the Amannagar stretch to serve as a parallel one to the Bhavaninagar katta road. The Bhavaninagar thoroughfare is actually a bund on the Mir Jumla Tank and is quite narrow.
“The corporation had received proposals from various government departments and public representatives. The proposals are still being studied and will not be taken up immediately,” the official clarified.
