GSI team arrives to study landslides
Another team is expected to come here to study and check the situation in the next 3-4 days.
Mangaluru: A team of experts from Geological Survey of India(GSI) and State Disaster Monitoring Center visited landslide hit Jodupala and nearby areas to study the situation there on Wednesday.
Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil said that the team included officials from GSI and Director of State Disaster Management Authority Dr G.S. Srinivas Reddy. "The team feels that Jodupala is not ready for the return of villagers. They said that people can return after the road is cleared and after studying the situation there again. They also felt that villagers can return to Devarakolli village and also Arekallu but as there was a landslide on the route to Arekallu, they suggested that this should also be considered before people return," Sasikanth Senthil told Deccan Chronicle. Another team is expected to come here to study and check the situation in the next 3-4 days. "Based on the suggestions of experts, today we feel people of Devarakolli can be allowed to return. However we will visit the place again and then consider allowing people to settle down there," he added.
