Hyderabad: Apart from the government schools in the state, even Telangana degree colleges have made more enrollments this academic year. In 2017-18 academic year 30,517 students enrolled for the degree programmes in government degree colleges but for 2018-2019 academic year, 40, 796 students have enrolled.

A college principal from City Degree College said, “Earlier there were only 400 to 500 students but now around 1,400 students have been enrolled in this academic year. The enrollment has increased because the intake of students has increased and this trend is only in top government degree colleges in and around Hyderabad. In the college at Begumpet the student strength is 2,390 and last year it was only 1,100," he said.

He adds, ''Almost every government degree college has received about 50 per cent more students but the problem is a lack of infrastructure and teachers. The colleges were built as per the old strength, now it is difficult to accommodate all the students. Telangana Degree Online Services  have helped in increasing the student enrollment as many students from rural areas have come to city colleges.”

Mr Gouri Satish, convener, KG to PG Joint Action Committee (JAC) said, “The strength has increased in government degree colleges as  the government has increased the student intake along with the increase in courses. Though the government has increased the intake , there is a need to increase facilities.”
