Krishna Janmashtami: ISKCON readies 1 lakh laddoos

BENGALURU: The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) is all geared up to celebrate Sri Krishna Janmashtami on August 24. The whole day is lined up with programmes and rituals. The temple has prepared one lakh laddoos for distribution.

For the uninitiated, Krishna Janmashtami or Gokulasthami is a grand festival celebrated all over the country to commemorate the birth of Krishna, who is believed to be the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
ISKCON will be celebrating Janmashtami at 8 different locations in Bengaluru. Various activities and games have been organised for children and youth on themes like–Literary, Oratory, Sacred Chants, Art &, Craft, Music, Dance, Theatre, etc.
On Saturday, the first abhisheka begins at the temple (Dwarakapuri) at 6.30 am, followed by Darshana arti and Sangeeta utsava. There will be 9 special abhishekas to Radha Krishna on Saturday. Radha Krishna deities will be bathed in water from 108 holy rivers of India.
From 8 am onwards, continuous free prasada will be distributed to public visitors, said Mr Naveena Neerada Dasa, Head - Strategic Communication and Projects ISKCON Bangalore.
General public can have their darshan till 11 pm. The festival celebrations will conclude at 1 am (Sunday midnight) with the grand shayana pallaki utsava in the main temple hall.
