Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Thursday lifted the restrictions imposed on the sale of the insecticide monocrotophos in the state.

Justice Ponugoti Naveen Rao was dealing with a petition by fertiliser dealers from Adilabad district who had challenged the circular which imposed certain restrictions on the sale of the insecticide. The circular was issued by the district collector, Adilabad, which mentioned that the insecticide ‘Mono-crotophos 36% SL (monocrotophos)’ shall not be sold to farmers without prescription of the agriculture officials.

Mr Avinash Desai, counsel representing the petitioners, submitted that restrictions can be imposed on the sale of insecticide if it was causing or was likely to endanger humans or animals.
