Central, State Leaders at Vizag Emphasise on Blue Economy

Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam on Wednesday hosted the preparatory meeting for Global Maritime India Summit 2023, which will be held in New Delhi from October 17 to October 19.

AP industries minister Gudivada Amarnath, Rajya Sabha member G.V.L. Narasimha Rao, Visakhapatnam Port chairman Angamuthu and a host of others spoke on the occasion.

They emphasised that both central and state governments are taking measures to develop the blue economy by using sea wealth and transport. The maritime summit will discuss improvement in sea transport facilities, modernisation of ports, construction and development of fishing harbours, export and import of marine products and development of tourism.

Speaking on the occasion, the AP minister said Andhra Pradesh government is spending Rs 16,000 crores on development of its blue economy.

Narasimha Rao said the Centre will develop all ports, including Visakhapatnam.

There are 12 major ports and around 200 minor ports in the country. Transportation of goods through them will be speeded up, he stated.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be participating in the Global Maritime India Summit 2023 in New Delhi from October 17.
