Hyderabad: Recipient ill, can't take heart

The heart could not be used as the recipient had high blood pressure due to which the blood pumping valves became thicker.

Hyderabad/Nellore: Mr Chillakuru Sirdhar Reddy and Ms Vasantha Laxmi of Nellore donated six organs of their 32-year-old son Dinesh Reddy, after he was declared brain dead on Friday. Dinesh had complained of a headache on October 13 and was admitted to a private hospital in Nellore.

His father Sridhar Reddy, who owns a chicken shop, said his son had a bad headache and collapsed at home. “The doctors said that there was a tumour in his brain but there were never any symptoms.”

He was later declared brain dead at a Nellore hospital. The parents approached the Narayana Medical College to donate the organs to the Jeevandan scheme.
A kidney was given to KIMS Hospital in Nellore and the heart and liver were brought to Hyderabad for two patients at the KIMS Hospital here.

The organs were transported to Hyderabad by helicopter which landed at Begumpet airport at 7.30 am on Saturday. From here the organs were transported via the green channel that the police had created, to KIMS Hospital.

The heart could not be used as the recipient had high blood pressure due to which the blood pumping valves became thicker. A kidney was donated to Narayana Hospital and the eyes were donated to Modern Eye Hospital in Nellore, sources said.
