Saroornagar: Lift crushes 8-year-old to death

The boy was identified as Cholangi Venkata Thaswanth peeped into the pit below the lift, standing on the parapet wall.

Hyderabad: An eight-year-old boy who was playing in the apartment cellar, died after he was hit by the apartment lift in Karmanghat in Saroornagar. 

The boy was identified as Cholangi Venkata Thaswanth peeped into the pit below the lift, standing on the parapet wall. The lift came down and crushed him between. Police said there were no safety grills surrounding the lift, which led to the incident. However, a case of suspicious death was booked. Police said that they will alter the case as per the evidence and further investigation.

Venkat Thaswanth and younger brother Srinath were playing in the cellar on Sunday morning, while their father Srinivas, was cleaning the cars of the residents. Around 8.30 am, there was a huge cry of a child, due to which residents rushed to the cellar. Initially, they could not find the source of the noise but later found Thaswanth stuck in the lift lying in a pool of blood. 

Police said that both the boys were playing near their father, but Thaswanth ran towards the lift. He stood near the edge which is around two feet high and peeped into the pit, where the lift would land. But he did not notice that the lift was coming down. 

“The boy got stuck between the wall and the lift and his head got crushed killing him on the spot. His father saw him first, but could not react, as this incident ledt him in shock.” said Mr J. Venkatakrishna, SI from Saroornagar police station. The SI added that the area was not fenced, resulting in boys death.
